Los Angeles native Beth Hart who is a blues-inspired rocker and former street performer began her career in 1995 with Immortal, attracting attention for her raw, outspoken nature with a gifted musicianship, emotional live performances, and a voice compared to that of Janis Joplin. "Hart is the epitome of the natural woman," wrote Chuck Taylor for the October 2nd, 1999 issue of Billboard magazine "bawdy and funny, lively and free-wheeling with her choice of spiced words. But, nothing compares to her presence on stage. The tall, lanky singer/songwriter strides and screams out songs along in a band with Mick Jagger . At other times, she's taken an area in front of the piano or on the stage in which her legs are placed over chairs, and her voice is delicate and painfulthat it's hard to tell if she's about to cry or if you'll. Hart was subject to similar reactions from the moment she took to the stage for amateur contests in her teen years. But, Hart was skeptical about the business of music after it was an international success. Then, the globe-trotting over was detrimental to the band, and Hart disappeared from the scene for over four years, a time being a soul-searcher and dealing with problems through writing music. When she was ready to give her career a second chance, Hart returned to the scene in 1999, releasing the acclaimed Screamin' for My Supper which saw Hart's songwriting skills mature with honest, vulnerable songs about tackling life's problems.
