She has covered sports for major outlets around the globe. It was a long time writing about various sports on behalf of The Washington Post, including tennis, football, and basketball. Nichols was hired by ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She spent nine years there, earning 2 Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched shows on ESPN like SportsCenter or NFL Countdown. Nichols was also a an integral part of ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcasts as an on-line reporter. The next step was to CNN after which she joined Turner Sports. Unguarded The show - Rachel Nichols - was her debut self-titled series, and was a weekly show for a week on CNN International. A record-breaking 1 billion viewers watched it worldwide. Nichols was also a reporter to TNT for NBA broadcasts during playoffs as well as broadcasts for the All-Star game. Alongside the reporting on TBS, she also covered baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. It was the only occasion in the award's 42 year history that a woman was nominated amongst the more than 200 nominations.
